On Friday, November 14, 2025, at Sapienza University's Department of Computer Science, located at via Salaria 113, the Drupal Camp Italy 2025 took place with great success. It was the first event of its kind in Italy in eight years and brought together a large audience (approximately 120 participants) for an entire day dedicated to innovation, networking, and sharing technological experiences related to the Open-Source software Drupal.
A historical return to Sapienza
Following the previous edition held in 2017, during which Sapienza hosted at the Dentistry building, the Drupal Camp once again chose Rome as its venue, this time at one of the Department of Informatics' locations. This meeting proved significant for reaffirming the commitment of the academic community towards spreading open-source technologies and collaborative development.
A content-rich day with digital interconnections
The event featured a series of presentations led by Italian and international experts focusing on cutting-edge topics such as Drupal's evolution to new versions, applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and its integration within the ecosystem of this Content Management System (CMS).
Alongside organizers and sponsors, Professor Enrico Tronci, Director of the Department of Informatics, and Professor Luigi Cinque, Deputy Rector for Third Mission Web Resources, welcomed participants during the initial plenary session.
Among the speakers were also academic figures such as VisionLab from the Department of Informatics, represented by Prof. Marco Raoul Marini and Ph.D. student Valerio Venanzi. These individuals demonstrated AI potential in a digital context, highlighting how Large Language Models (LLMs) can be integrated into content management through advanced approaches, such as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), a technology that combines machine learning with external data to enhance the accuracy and relevance of generated information.
A central role was also played by InfoSapienza team, who presented Sapienza’s technological architecture and progress in modernizing its Drupal system from version 7 up to the most recent versions 10/11. The presentation emphasized infrastructural challenges, advanced security measures, and adaptability towards digital change, topics that generated considerable interest among participants.
Networking and forward-looking perspectives Beyond technical talks, the Drupal Camp facilitated idea exchange through roundtables and informal meetings. Numerous positive pieces of feedback received confirmed appreciation for both the quality of the presentations and the event organization, with many requests to repeat it in the future.
