Roberto Navigli obtained his degree in Computer Science from the “Sapienza” University of Rome in 2001, and went on to obtain his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the ”Sapienza” University in 2007

He was winner of the 2007 “Marco Caldoli Prize” for the best doctoral thesis in Artificial Intelligence

In 2006 and 2008 he was a Visitor at the School of Informatics of the University of Edinburgh, UK, financed by research grants from the European Commission and the Royal Scottish Society.

In 2007 and 2008 he was a Visiting Researcher at the Department of Informatics of the University of Sussex, UK.

From 2007 to 2010 he was a Researcher in the “Dipartimento di
Informatica” of the “Sapienza” University of Rome. From 2010 to date he
has been an Associate Professor. He is the winner of a 2010 ERC Starting
Grant in "computer science and informatics".

His research interests include: Natural language Processing (in particular Word Sense Disambiguation); Ontology Learning; the Semantic Web; Information Retrieval. He is a member of the Programme Committtees of the major Conferences on Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing (ACL, EACL, EMNLP) and is a Referee for journals such as IEEE Transactions on Data and Knowledge, IEEE Intelligent Systems, ACM Transactions on Speech and Language Processing, Very Large Data Bases VLDB Journal, Journal of Natural Language Engineering. He is a Member of the Executive Board 2007-2010 of the Special Interest Group on the Lexicon (SIGLEX).
