Francesco was a warm and welcoming host of my sabbatical year at La Sapienza in 1998-99. We came together from very different areas of computing, but managed to find a stimulating and productive intersection of ideas and perspectives. Not everyone is so willing to step outside of their familiar surroundings to explore new territory. Francesco was one of those rare individuals and I will always appreciate him for that. Un abbraccio.
