Sapienza University of Rome, in partnership with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), is inviting applications for a PhD position under the Collaborative Doctoral Partnership (CDP) scheme.
Research Focus:
The project explores how data science and large language models (LLMs) can help understand, quantify, and mitigate online misinformation. The research combines natural language processing, network analysis, and agent-based modeling to study misinformation dynamics, evaluate credibility of information sources, and simulate interventions for improving public trust online.
Candidate Profile:
We seek motivated applicants with a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Statistics, Physics, or a related field, who are interested in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of data science and public policy. EU or associated country nationals (or long-term residents) are eligible.
Program Structure:
- Months 1–12: Sapienza University – coursework, research design, data collection
 - Months 13–24: JRC Brussels – applied research, policy collaboration
 - Months 25–36: Sapienza University – dissertation and publications
