Needless to say it was very sad learning of Francesco's passing. The scientific events he organised in the 90ies played a big part in my own career. I remember very fondly a meeting in Tarquinia, I think it WADT, which was my first direct contact with the Algebraic Specification Community beyond Berlin. Francesco was always one of the most genuinely welcoming and helpful mentors a younger researcher could wish for. I will miss his advice and friendship.
