Chiara Di Stefano and Daniele De Sensi received the Best Poster Award for their work "Short Hops, Big Gains: Beyond Asymptotic Costs in Collective Communication on Dragonfly+" at Euro-Par 2026.
Euro-Par is one of Europe’s premier international conferences dedicated to all aspects of parallel and distributed computing. The award-winning research analyzes the complex interaction between collective algorithms, network topology, and routing. By evaluating traffic patterns on Dragonfly+ topologies, the authors demonstrate that algorithms with identical theoretical asymptotic costs can differ by more than 6× in completion time depending on how they distribute traffic across intra- and inter-group links. Their findings underscore the necessity of moving beyond traditional asymptotic cost models to optimize collective communication on modern HPC systems.
